Canopus is a cryogenic chamber for running near infrared detectors at 80 Kelvin. Canopus consists of a high-vacuum cryostat with a cold stop, a cold filter wheel, a Molybdenum plate for installation of a NIR detector.

Canopus is cooled to cryogenic temperatures using a Cryotel, a free-piston Stirling cryocooler provided by Sun Power Inc (Ametek).

Canopus can accommodate any NIR detector, such as a Teledynes' HAWAII-2RG. If required, a different detector plate can be machined to specifications, for mounting a different device.
